Girl Gonna Run
Right, so most of you already know the plan since I've been wangin' on about it for about 6 months now. But for those who don't, here are the basics: Everest Marathon, next November, raise funds for HorseBack UK... got it? And, you know, when I say it nice and quick like that, it sounds pretty simple!
It's not till I started thinking through the logistics it suddenly became, well... a bit trickier. First: to even be seriously considered for the gruelling task next winter, I knew I'd have to complete harder tasks than 'just road marathons' (!) and so, back in October last year, I set myself my first challenge - the 55 mile ultra-marathon from Glasgow to Edinburgh. It seemed like a sensible option (admittedly, there was a glass of rum and coke in my hand at the time!). But I had just done a marathon and I had six months to double the distance; easy.
Well, all I have to say is WHO the hell stole my six months?!?! The ultra is eight days away *pause to breathe through the urge to throw up* and training has only just been fitted in. Not that I didn't start straight away, the problem is I have never been more injured and ill as I have been these past six months - between shin splints, tendon problems, stress reactions, knee problems, horse kicks, illness and concussion, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster!!
I have no idea how the race is going to go, I'm trying not to think too much about it. I know there's going to be pain medication at the start and a pub at the end (and 11 hours in between to anyone raising their eyebrows!) and that's all I need to know.

And in ten days time, I'll be one challenge down on the way to Everest, and no doubt coming up with the next stupid, dumbass, impossible task to get you lot to give a few pounds to the incredible charity that is HorseBack UK and all the work they do for ex-soldiers...

Ps. Reading back through my last blog post is an absolute hoot: there have been better days than that one in January, honest!
