Someone's got a plan...

So it looks like I've found the confidence to post something online, in front of people, once again. My legs might say otherwise, but when is this not the case? It's half seven in the morning and I've just finished a 20 mile run - I'm still a little flabbergasted as to when and from where this motivation suddenly reappeared but I won't question it.

Much like if someone handed you a suitcase full of cash - you just don't question it. (Actually, you probably should in that circumstance, but anyway).
For about six months there, life was a bit up in the air and fundraising endeavours were quickly looking less and less achievable. It was getting harder to keep track of goals in my head and when you can't keep a clear goal, you can't train very well for it.
But, as everyone has probably experienced, life has a way of sorting itself out and things quieten down again (if you haven't experienced this, I suggest you look for a more boring life). And when things are a bit quieter, goals are easier to set.
Of course, the steadfast aim is the Everest Marathon 2019 for the increasingly successful charity HorseBack UK (more on that later), but the closer goal in the run up to this massive race will be the Ultimate Trails 55km race this summer. I was uber chuffed when I found this race because it means my text code for donations still makes sense (HBUK55 £1 to 70070) - it's the little things, it really is.

Knowing I would have something big on this year, but not knowing what, meant I did actually keep the running up over the winter so I wasn't starting completely from scratch! Thank god, because I'd be a little pudding with the cardio ability of a grape by now I'm sure.
Taking my own advice for a change, I stuck to two weeks of gradual build up to one week of easy stuff.....and told myself to get a grip every time I thought it wasn't enough. On the whole, I don't have any major flare ups going on - we all remember the shins, the dreaded shins - and today's 20 miles only saw tired legs and a few niggley bits but nothing devastating... woohooo! For anyone remotely interested, it's taken 13 weeks, starting around Christmas time having not done much since a sprained ankle at the beginning of November. Easier than you think if you remember to take it easy!

Of course, as I tell you every time, Everest and all the races to get me there are to raise money for the wonderful HorseBack UK. HorseBack are having a fantastic run at the moment, winning the Soldiering On Animal Partnership award. The team work their socks off at the centre to give military veterans the best chance to recuperate and recover alongside the horses. Now, if I can do a little bit to raise some money so this charity can continue the amazing work they do, I'm going to do it. So please, over the next days, weeks and months as I keep you up to date with training (which you'll be able to, at the very least, laugh at and feel so much better about your attempts to train for your own endeavours), I'm going to ask you to whip out your phone and text HBUK55 £1 to 70070...and that's it! It takes approximately 3 seconds, two and a half if you're particularly technologically advanced.

That's it from me for just now. Signing out, the unusually motivated runner.
