Looking for the boost...

Oh hello there, long since dusty blog. It's been a while.

My feet are achey and my thumbnail is gnawed right down. I have been training, and I have been worrying. I was so so used to battling with my own determination, discipline, mindset (and toenails) to get to where I wanted to be. If I didn't get there it was, when it really came down to it, something I had or hadn't done. It never really occurred to me that one day the battle might not be with myself. And it might not be a battle at all. It's a bit like when you're a child and your mum says "NO." With that look on her face that says "Try me, I dare you." The postponement of last year's BTU Jungle Ultra (my two year long obsession) was a funny old one to deal with but it was as it was - you can't argue with a global pandemic. Another year of prep was a-okay. But here we are in 2021 and it's *breathe* JUST AS UNCERTAIN.

So I look for little boosts. The Cadbury ones too if it gets desperate enough. This weeks boost was the announcement from Beyond The Ultimate (the company organising the Jungle Ultra) that they are still fully preparing for June's race. Local permissions are in place, Covid-friendly measures have been brought in, and our small group of runners has a good chance of being allowed to run. National permission allowing. KEEP TRAINING.

So, time to get acquainted with this hammock malarkey once more, practice with some near inedible spaceman food, moisturise my feet and wonder for the 489th time how I'm going to fit everything into the recommended backpack.

I will be ready for the Amazon. Even if the Amazon isn't ready for me.
